The focus of Neighbour to Neighbour’s reading tutor program is on words, but numbers tell the story. Community Foundations
Hamilton Community Foundation is one of over 165 community foundations in Canada and among thousands in countries around the world.
Community foundations are charities dedicated to improving communities in specific geographic areas. They do this by:
- pooling the charitable gifts of donors to create endowment funds
- using the investment income to make grants
- providing leadership by monitoring their area's quality of life and convening people, ideas, and resources to help build stronger and more resilient communities.
Every community foundation is unique in the way it fulfills these roles and in the priority it places on each area. The emphasis on each role can also vary at different times in a community foundation's development. As they work toward fully implementing all three roles, individual community foundations will reflect each role to a different degree.
