Gage Family Fund

Margaret Gage

Margaret Gage

Margaret Gage is responsible for fundraising and communications for the Gage Family Fund. "If I am to promote charitable giving in the community, it is my responsibility to set an example" Ms. Gage said, explaining why she set up the Gage Family Fund with the Foundation in 1997.

The death of her father, lawyer Cameron H. Gage, Q.C., prompted Margaret to honour his memory and the family name by taking out a life insurance policy and transferring its ownership to the foundation. "It's within my financial capacity. The premiums will be paid up in less than 10 years, at which time I can make outright cash gifts." She added, "In terms of giving, size doesn't matter. You get more back than you ever give up".

Ms. Gage established a field of interest fund that will provide creative ways to allow humans and animals to interact for the positive benefit of both. The fund's initiatives could include a Bark Park where dog owners can unleash their pets for exercise and a pet therapy program which will allow hospitalized children and residents of senior's homes to enjoy pet companionship. As well, a program is planned which will focus on public education for the prevention of animal abuse.

"I have great confidence in the organizations, management and longevity of the Foundation. I think it's a good investment in the community." Ms. Gage added.
