A two year fellowship award is available to a full-time post doctoral student in the sciences.
This fellowship was established in 1961 through a gift to Hamilton Community Foundation, in the will of Eugene B. Eastburn. Mr. Eastburn was president of National Hosiery Mills, and also served as a vice-president of Hamilton Community Foundation. His desire was to enable outstanding young scientists to pursue full time study and research in the sciences. Mr. Eastburn had a particular desire to support those people who, through lack of finances, would otherwise be unable to continue their studies.
To date, Mr. Eastburn’s vision has been realized through 32 fellowships spanning studies in a range of disciplines including physics, chemistry, math, medical sciences, biology, geology and zoology. The E.B. Eastburn Fellowship has become one of Canada’s most prestigious scientific research fellowships. As of 2011, it will be available solely to McMaster University students.
