A grant to McMaster University’s Let’s Talk Science! partnership supported students from at four Hamilton elementary schools to care for and hatch Atlantic salmon eggs in their classrooms over the winter, and then to re-introduce the fish into the Lake Ontario watershed. Once a keystone species, these fish were eradicated from the lake in the late 1800s. This program enables children to learn about the vital role they can play in protecting the environment.

Since 1956, Pioneer Energy LP ("Pioneer") has developed a history of charitable giving in its communities and has become a leader in philanthropy. It is a member of the Imagine Program, annually contributing a portion of pre-tax earnings to charitable organizations and provides a mechanism for spontaneous charitable contributions from customers through participation in its "Air for Charity" program. Pioneer encourages customers' contributions by installing "Point of Sale" collection boxes at all its retail outlets across Ontario. In the past, these combined contributions have been used primarily to support children's issues throughout Ontario.
For many years, Pioneer Energy has also been contributing to the Pioneer Energy Fund, an endowment fund of the Hamilton Community Foundation to help address the highest charitable priorities in the community.
