The Grade 3 Boys’ Reading Program at C.B. Stirling School was funded through a Youth Advisory Council mini-grant. Mini-grants are made to elementary and middle schools for extracurricular activities that focus on non-competitive enrichment. YAC members are involved in selecting the grants, focusing on the goal of strengthening school communities through afterschool involvement.

YAC announced its fifth year of grants for young people with great ideas to improve their community. The grants are available to kids from 11 to 25 and youth must participate as volunteers. The Foundation provides 50 percent of project costs up to a maximum of $2,500, as long as the project team can find matching support in the community.
Community support can be cash, or in-kind support. In-kind means what the community can give or donate to your project like food for volunteers, use of a building, vehicle or equipment, tutoring or mentoring. These grants will pay for things like project materials, promotional costs, transportation, food and lodging for volunteers. YAC has raised funds to grant under this program and will review applications and decide which projects to fund.
